The City Council is handing over the plots of land where Gerontoebro, which will pay 150,000 euros per year, will invest 13.5 million euros and create 197 jobs.

The deeds granting two municipal land plots to the company Gerontoebro for the construction of senior residences with day centers have been signed. They were signed by Mayor Cuca Gamarra, according to the City Council’s announcement yesterday.

The company plans to invest a total of €13.5 million (€8,138,000 for the Fardachón project and €5,542,000 for the Cascajos project), while paying the City Council an annual fee of almost €150,000 (€102,135.32 and €43,612.20) for 75 years, as stipulated in the land transfer specifications, the local government stated. In addition to the financial investment, these centers will employ 197 full-time employees (118 and 79 positions, respectively).

One of the residences with a day center will be built in Fardachón, next to the National Police station, on a plot of 11,908.26 square meters. This building will have a usable area of 6,903.29 square meters—divided into basements, ground floors, and two floors—to accommodate 206 places in 103 double rooms and a day center for 40 users. Access will be from Sorzano Street via a small boulevard-square.

The second residence will be located on a plot of 6,552 square meters in Cascajos, with access from Ortega y Gasset Street. In this case, the building will have a single floor (with a basement and ground floor) and a usable area of 5,380.78 square meters, offering 142 places in 71 rooms and an additional 30 for day center users.

The company’s deadlines are for the application for an activity and construction license within three months of the award agreement; construction will begin and end within three months and two years, respectively; and the start of activity will begin four months after the initial occupancy permit.

The awarding of the land to this firm drew criticism from the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) because it believed it was part of the same business group that manages the CIBIR parking lot and also because the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) prefers to focus on public housing.
